This program will provide the student with entry level competencies in installation, setup, programming, tooling, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial robots. Industrial robots perform the same functions as human operators and are utilized for welding, materials handling, loading and unloading of manufacturing equipment, which are performed repetitively, accurately and without fatigue. Often the operations performed are ones which would be unpleasant or hazardous for a human.

The primary objective of the Robotics Technology program is to prepare students for entry level employment in the field of Robotics application in manufacturing industry. Students who successfully complete this program may obtain entry level employment as Production Operators, Machine Line Operators and Operators.

A graduate of the Robotics Technology program will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the skills necessary to succeed in industry.
  • Demonstrate skill in setting up of industrial robots.
  • Demonstrate skill in designing tooling, fixturing, grippers, and end effectors for use in performing manufacturing operations.
  • Demonstrate skill in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting and repair of industrial robots.
  • Demonstrate skill in programming industrial robots to perform the required operations.
  • Demonstrate skill in setting up required interfaces by integrating robotics systems with other machines and equipment in the work cell.
  • Demonstrate skill in programming the robot to interact with the other machines and equipment in the work cell in order to control the desired sequence of operations and functions.
  • Have working knowledge of industry safety practices and requirements concerning industrial robots.
  • Demonstrate skill in design and installation of appropriate guarding and barriers to prevent unauthorized entry into the work cell area and resultant personal injury.
  • Demonstrate computer skills necessary for this work.
  • Demonstrate skill in applying, programming and troubleshooting Robot Vision systems.
  • Demonstrate skills in CAD and CAM necessary for design of tooling and for programming machines for required operations.
  • Demonstrate skill in programming of Programmable Logic Controllers.
