This program gives students the basic office principles and software application skills necessary to succeed in the workplace. In addition to Business Communications, Business Math, and Accounting principles, students are introduced to the personal computer, keyboarding and the Internet. The Microsoft Office package is used to instruct students in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications and Peachtree Accounting software is used to demonstrate computerized accounting techniques. This program gives students the skills to obtain an entry-level position as an Administrative Assistant, Accounts Payable/Receivable Clerk, Bookkeeper, Finance Assistant, Front Office Clerk, Office Assistant or Secretary.
Program Objectives
The main objective of the Office Fundamentals Program is to prepare students for entry- level employment in a business environment.
A graduate of the Office Fundamentals program will be able to:
- Perform keyboarding tasks at a rate of 30-50+ words per minute.
- Operate a personal computer and use application software to create documents, worksheets, presentations and databases.
- Browse, search for a specific web site, and obtain information from the Internet.
- Create and edit business documents.
- Demonstrate knowledge of business mathematics, accounting principles and computerized accounting practices.
- Understand the roles and duties of a supervisor in the workplace.

This course introduces the basic concepts and principles of personal computers and the operating system by which they most commonly operate.

Computer Keyboarding

Course Description:
This course is designed to introduce the basic concepts of typing using a computer keyboard. Students will develop touch typing techniques that will be useful to individuals in an entry-level professional and/or business setting. Emphasis will be placed on mastery of keyboard & function keys and development of speed & accuracy. Students should have a familiarity with a personal computer.

Business Math

Course Description:
This course is designed to introduce students to basic principles of mathematics that may be required for an entry-level office position. Emphasis is on the contextual use of math as it applies to everyday business transactions. Students will apply mathematical processes to topics such as payroll, interest, taxes, and insurance.

This course is designed to provide the student with a basic instruction in the varied styles of business communication in order to prepare them for a entry-level position in a professional work environment. Topics such as nonverbal messages, oral communication, language usage, document formats and proofreading will be discussed.

Course Description:
This course serves as an introduction to desk-top publishing applications using Microsoft Publisher. Students will discuss and create publications such as flyers, newsletters and brochures. Accounting Principles

Course Description:
This course is designed to introduce students to the accounting principles and theories used in a business environment. Emphasis will be on developing the entry-level skills necessary to process, analyze, interpret, and communicate financial information. Students will discuss topics such as the general ledger, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and financial statements.

Introduction to Computer Accounting

Course Description:
This course is designed to introduce students to computerized accounting techniques. The course will develop these techniques by using computer software designed specifically for business accounting. Students will learn to perform accounting transactions using Peachtree software.
