English Announces House Approval of Funds for PMI

On July 19th, U.S. Rep. Phil English (R-Pa.) announced $100,000 in funding for Precision Manufacturing Institute (PMI) was allocated in H.R. 3043, the Labor, Health and Human Services and Education Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2008, which passed the House floor by a vote of 276 to 140.

The announced funding of $100,000 will allow PMI to increase its research and development capabilities at its current Meadville facility and expand training opportunities for workers. 

“Already a top-notch institution, PMI provides training with technical expertise unmatched by other technical schools,” English said.  “By expanding its available resources, PMI will be able to train more students, helping to further enhance our region’s employer competitiveness and innovation.”

PMI Announces 2 New Diploma Programs

PMI is proud to begin offering students the opportunity to train in the growing field of robotics technology. Two new programs in this area are scheduled to begin in September 2007.

Precision Manufacturing Institute Elects Officers

Johnathan DeArment has been elected to a two-year term as chairman of the board of directors for Precision Manufacturing Institute of Meadville. DeArment, vice president of manufacturing and engineering at Channellock, Inc., the Meadville-based maker of pliers and other hand tools, succeeds Dennis Frampton as chairman. Frampton, president of C&J Industries of Meadville, a tooling and machining firm, had served at PMI's chairman for the past four years.

Also elected to two-year terms were Tracy Coon as vice chairman and Dan Higham as secretary/treasurer. Coon is the human resources manager for Tech Tool & Molded Plastics of Meadville and Higham is president of U.S. Bronze Foundry and Machine Inc. of Meadville. DeArment, Coon and Higham all are familiar with the tooling, machining and manufacturing industries and have served on PMI's board prior to their election as officers.

May 2006

PMI Celebrates Opening of New Facility

On May 18th, 2006, PMI celebrated the grand opening of their new Regional Technology and Education Center in Meadville. The event began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and was followed by a public open house.
